The Commercial Beef Industry Is Our Focus

At Tomahawk Land & Cattle we breed, raise, feed, harvest and sell our customers' Limousin, Red Angus, and Angus beef (as well as our own) across America. We call this the "pasture-to-plate" approach in raising commercial beef.
Economically relevant traits are very important to us and we look for the following in all of our cattle:

  • Uniformity and consistency
  • Genetic advantages for tenderness
  • Improved yield grade
  • Improved muscling - mandatory for the 21st century!
  • Proper marbling

Ideal Target

The ideal target is easy keeping and deep-sided cattle, with a ribeye to carcass ratio (2.0 or better) that grades High Select to Low Choice. To achieve this target, we utilize the following Limousin, Red Angus and Angus sires:

Our bulls have been performance tested at Midland Bull Test, and have always placed at the top. One of Tomahawk's Limousin bulls was named the Midland Bull Sale Top Performance Bull. Each year our bulls are tested on the ranch at Billings, Montana.

All sale bulls are ultrasounded for ribeye, marbling, rib and rump fat by C.U.P. of Ames, Iowa. They usually average a rib backfat of 0.11 inch and rump fat of 0.12 inch. All weights and EPDs, including carcass EPDs, ADG on test, scrotal measurements, fertility test and ultrasound results are provided to prospective buyers.

About the Owner

Terry O'Neill, owner and founding board member of Western Beef Alliance, started his Limousin and Angus seedstock business back in 1979 with a B.S. in industrial engineering and an MBA already under his belt. In 1998, he was named Commercial Marketing Booster of the Year by the North American Limousin Foundation.

He is an active member of Montana Stockgrowers and Wyoming Stockgrowers and sits on the Board of Directors of Beef Improvement Federation and North American Limousin Foundation. Terry's most recent endeavor involves his work in Montana Ranch Brand, Inc. where he sits on the Board of Directors, is VP of Cattle Procurement and a stock owner in the company.
