The Limousin Crossed British (F-1) Range Cow is The Future

Limousin

"It's complementerity to its optimum, Best Cross."

According to the USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center, NE, the Limousin is the most feed efficient of all major breeds. Additionally, when using the standard of measurement " pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed," Clay Center also has demonstrated that the Limousin female on a "starvation ration (drought) or an all you can eat ration" has proven to come in second best for both extremes . Couple the above impressive results with the beef industry trend to require more red meat yield, higher dressing percent of red meat, increased ribeye size and lower back fat - then the obvious conclusion is to run a Limousin crossed British cow. We do not recommend running 3/4 Limousin - 1/4 British cow in general. Below are additional advantages of the Limi F-1 cow over other well known continental crosses:

  • Results in the most moderate framed F-1 female
  • Results in the lowest birth weight F-1 female
  • Adds the most muscle and lowest back fat in the F-1 (leanest and red meat yield) female
  • Results in the most optimum milking ability for range conditions
  • Offers color management (solid red or black)
  • Has the highest salvage value
  • Far exceeds the threshold for age of puberty in first calf heifers
  • Offers maximum flexibility to fit most if not all niches from highly marbled beef (use Angus bulls back across), to even blend of muscle and marbling (use F-1 Limi- Angus bulls), or for heavy muscled carcasses as Laura's Lean Beef (use heavy muscled Limi bulls)

Remember: "Change is Inevitable - Progress is an Option."
